Our Money Matrix

Have you watch the film called The Matrix? If you haven't, you ought to- it is this a good film. Not only that, the plot provides an interesting analogy on the way we live our lives. That is the majority of us are actually asleep – we have chosen to live in a dream world because the reality of the real world is so terrible that we would rather sleep through life oppressed than awake and start to heal the world our ancestors were responsible for destroying.

In the film, Earth as we know it has been destroyed by the robots human beings created to make their lives easier. The robots gain consciousness and become aware of their power, then turn on humans and enslaved them instead, using their life energy to fuel a pointless world. (it's not clear why without hearts and souls the robots wanted to control the world).

The way we use money today can be seen as the robots and our relationship with it is our dream world, our matrix. Your money matrix is the degree to which you are prepared to live in a dream world whilst the real world is held hostage by money markets. Every day we hear that the money markets are this or the money markets are that, as if they have a life outside the control of individual human minds and choices. We believe we have prosperity, yet all the while our ideal world is being fuelled by the lives of those born into poverty and subhuman existence. Rather than waking up and reclaiming our world, warts and all, starting again and this time creating something where everyone benefits, we live in a dream.

As in The Matrix, we really do have a choice over whether to take the blue pill or the red pill. In the film this choice given to our sleeping hero by the leader of the resistance, Morpheus. Morpheus points out that waking up isn't pretty, but it is the truth. Not only is it the truth, it is also the opportunity to restart again with a different more inclusive agenda. One which aims to serve all of humanity by being good for all or at the very least does no harm.

Given the chance would you choose to stay asleep in a dream world or wake up to the truth? Please share your thoughts, I look forward to reading them.
