Don't get it right get it done!

I’ve got new sister. I adopted her (she’s age 47), so now she is part of my family. She's auntie to my children, an addition to the sibling pool of five – now six; and a new daughter to my mum. It's nice having a new sister, Carole.

Anyway today we were talking, like sisters do, about my tendency to perfection. (Okay I admit it's more anal retention.) I can get overly fixated on detail and consequently sometimes I just don't get it done at all. But now I’ve seen the light. Thanks to Carole I realise that getting it right is like painting that bridge they always refer to when describing endless thankless tasks. My old self would have spent time looking up its name – to get it right. Not the mew me. You get my drift so who cares what it’s called!

I’ve been liberated by my new motto – don’t get it right; get it done, because actually there is no right. There is correct, i.e. it meets whatever formal assessment standards it's measured by; but right is subjective. Right is based on your beliefs and values and if they are stopping you getting things done, then they are what's called limiting beliefs. Beliefs, although can develop in an instant, because they lodged themselves deep within our psyche, they can take a while to shift. It takes practice, i.e. practising some other belief that gives you what you want. So from now on I'm getting it done. My new belief: “done is the new right" or something like that. It's not perfect, but it's done!

By the way what do you think of the new colour scheme for my blog? As always I welcome your comments and look forward to reading them.
