Spiritual Counselling.

Spiritual Counselling.

Last week was my film début – well my first ever Youtube video for my website. I ended up shooting 9 separate clips. There is something about being in front of a bright light and glass lens that saps your ability to a) remember anything and b) speak normally. Prior to filming I thought I’d be a natural because I find public speaking easy and I am  constantly complemented on my lively engaging delivery. Turns out that what looks good in real life doesn’t necessarily translate well in film! I have a tendency not to like myself in photographs and this was no exception. They say the camera doesn’t lie, which's a shame is really as I would have much preferred to be able to put my somewhat robotic performance down to poor lighting, camera angles etc as opposed to my wooden delivery. On the positive side by the time I got to clip 5 I had calmed down a lot and the last 4 clips are well ... actually quite good. You can see them on my Tycoon Women channel

As I was rattling through my speech about the innovative and cutting edge features of my “what works for you” system of coaching and mentoring it occurred to me that perhaps a more detailed explanation of spiritual counselling than “a process of connecting to your inner wisdom” was needed. A good place to start is with the following quote:

I do not possess the truth anymore than you do.
Truth is what unites us in suffering and in joy.
It is born of our union, in the pain and pleasure engendered there.
Not you or me, but you and me.
It is our common product and is a constant marvel.
 Its name?
Wisdom.
Irenee Guilane Dioh

In other words, inner wisdom is present when we recognise our connection to each other and acknowledge that our experiences are not separate

Similar to coaching, Spiritual Counselling starts from the premise that the client possesses deep inner wisdom and as such holds the key to unlock the doors to it. The added dimension to spiritual counselling is that it also sees the client as a reflection of Truth/God or whatever their understanding of the source of their core essence is. The aim is to allow the client to energetically look at what is preventing them realising the deeper spiritual Truth of their wholeness and through that realisation start to drop the patterns and defences that manifest as difficulties in their life. Consequently it doesn’t aim to ‘fix’ the client but support them in developing a more direct personal experience of God/ Self/All that Is, so that their capacity for love, compassion and kindness, particularly towards themselves may be greatly amplified.

Spiritual counselling is a session of openness to spirit, openness to the heart (inner essence), giving it a chance to allow wisdom to come through both the spiritual counsellor and the client in unity. It is not faith based or connected with a religion. My role as the spiritual counsellor is, through deep listening and being open to my own inner guidance, to keep the mind’s ‘I’ out of the way so that my heart gets a chance to communicate with the client’s heart and together heal. One Divine heart reminds another that it is part of the universal consciousness that is peace and love. Spiritual Counselling gives our hearts the chance to tell our minds to take a rest.

I use spiritual counselling as another tool to help my clients, particularly those with negative self talk and lack of confidence issues.  It is not a compulsory part of the programme rather an opportunity to experience another way of tapping into your deep well of personal resources should the idea appeal to you. When I first encountered spiritual counselling I was deeply sceptical about it. However, time and time again I have found that the process truly works. What makes it a really different experience is that it works through you rather than because of you. As I said earlier it is really about stepping out of the way and trusting a deeper wisdom. if you would like to know more about spiritual counselling or how my Tycoon Women business start up programme could help you please visit my website www.tycoonwomen.com

Note: Common to all counselling it is completely confidential and Spiritual Counsellors are monitored by attending supervision with an ordained, experienced spiritual counsellor.
